Rohit Sharma is in the squad for his batting, not his captaincy: Saba Karim

Indian captain Rohit Sharma amassed only 50 runs in three innings during the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Sharma averaged a pitiful 16.67 in this series and was not at his best with the willow.

And now, ex-Indian cricketer Saba Karim has revealed that Sharma is in the team because of his batting ability. Karim said that leadership is an added duty and that the “hitman” is in the playing XI largely for his batting.

Karim also said that there have been times when captains haven’t been able to do well in their main job because of the extra stress of leading the team.

Rohit Sharma is in the XI owing to his batting ability. Captaincy adds another layer of duty. He should maintain his concentration on hitting. Often, captains aren’t able to do as well as they should in their main skill. This should not occur, “Saba Karim said on Khelneeti.”

This is just the beginning for Rohit Sharma: Saba Karim

Saba Karim further said that Rohit Sharma is still in his infancy as India’s captain and will soon realize the value of his batting contributions to his side. Karim finished by noting that Rohit’s performance would be critical for the Indian team at the 2022 T20 World Cup and that the Hitman has to concentrate on his batting ability.

This is just the beginning for Rohit Sharma. He will eventually come to understand how important his runs are to the squad. His performance will be critical in Australia (for the T20 World Cup), where the pitches are large and the opposing bowlers are elite. Thus, Rohit Sharma must improve in this area, Saba Karim said.
