The cryptocurrency was created using the Bitcoin (BTC) system, although it has certain differences from Bitcoin (BTC), such as a hard cap, slower block transaction times, and a different hashing algorithm. Five days after the Litecoin Network went live on October 13, 2011, an open-source client for the cryptocurrency was made available on GitHub on October 7. Its popularity and merchant acceptance have since skyrocketed, and for most of its existence, it has continuously ranked among the top ten cryptocurrencies by market capitalization.
Litecoin was created to be a “lite version of Bitcoin” by Charlie Lee, a former Google employee. It is similar to Bitcoin in many ways but is lighter in weight.
