Amazon will spend $35 billion in Virginia data centers.

Amazon.com’s cloud services division said on Friday that it will spend an extra $35 billion by 2040 to grow its data centres in Virginia.

Amazon Web Services says that the increased investment will create 1,000 new jobs. The Republican governor of Virginia, Glenn Youngkin, said that AWS will build a lot of data centre campuses all over the state.

In 2021, AWS said that from 2011 to 2020, it had spent $35 billion on data centres in northern Virginia and had 3,500 full-time workers there.

AWS will also be eligible for a state grant of $140 million, which can be used “for workforce development, site and infrastructure improvements, and other project-related costs.”
