Pak vs Aus: Usman Khawaja targets 200, Australia, 332-4 in Karachi.
Pakistan vs. Australia: Usman Khawaja aims for 200 points, but Australia wins the Karachi Test 332-4.
KARACHI: Australia cruised to 332 for four at lunch on day two of the second test against Pakistan on Sunday, with opener Usman Khawaja on pace for his first test double century.
In the first few minutes, the hosts were able to get rid of their nightwatchman, Nathan Lyon. Khawaja kept going and reached 155 not-out, magnificent innings with 15 fours and a six.
Australia scored 81 runs in the 27-over period at the National Stadium. Left-hander Travis Head hit 14 at the same time.
Before Shaheen Afridi started throwing bouncers at Lyon, Australia was on 251-3. Lyon kept pulling, and sometimes hit the boundary, to Pakistan’s annoyance.
A lot of people were excited about Lyon’s 38. He hit five boundaries before getting hit by a fast ball from Faheem Ashraf and having his back broken.
Lyon added 54 runs with Khawaja and departed, having nailed the annoying nightwatchman position.
On Saturday, Khawaja opted out of the reverse sweep, but Pakistan were confident they had him caught in the slips on Sunday when the opener tried the shot against Nauman Ali.
Replays, however, established that no ball-bat contact occurred, leaving Pakistan with a squandered review.
Khawaja did what he was supposed to do and kept his score at 150. He was on track to beat his best score of 174 against New Zealand in a Brisbane test in 2015.
