Today’s PSL matchup pits pointless Kings against table-topper Sultans.

LAHORE: Beleaguered Karachi Kings will seek solace when they face relaxed Multan Sultans in today’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) match number 23 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium (Wednesday).

The Babar Azam-led Karachi Kings have already been eliminated from the competition after a run of seven straight losses. Multan Sultan, on the other side, has already secured a playoff berth with 12 points in seven games.

The Kings will be looking for some respite before the tournament officially finishes for them. No club has ever lost eight league matches in the six-team PSL, and the Kings certainly would not want to be the first.

The emphasis will also be on Babar, who has yet to wow audiences with his abilities in the PSL. Babar was appointed captain of the Kings before to the PSL, succeeding Imad Wasim, and the opening batter has lost all of his matches since being appointed.

He has also come under fire for the way he plays cricket. Many think that his slow batting in power play overs led Karachi to lose.

After losing by a single run to Islamabad United in a nail-biting encounter, the Kings’ dugout will attempt to reclaim their confidence. They will take heart from Qasim Akram and Imad Wasim’s recent form, but their efforts may be useless once again if the top order fails to produce.

Multan’s only objective in this match is to maintain momentum. They have already qualified for the playoffs and will now want to maintain their lead in the standings. However, there is a possibility that Multan, headed by Mohammad Rizwan, will use part of its bench strength against the Kings.

They’re almost certain to begin the match as favourites.

The match will begin at 7:30pm under the lights of Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Tim David, Imran Tahir, and Mir Hamza are all players to keep an eye on.

Babar Azam, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Nabi, Joe Clarke, Sharjeel Khan, Aamer Yamin, Chris Jordan, Lewis Gregory, Umaid Asif, Ian Cockbain, Rohail Nazir, Muhammad Imran, Faisal Akram, Qasim Akram, Talha Ahsan, Tom Lammonby, Usman Shinwari, Sahibzada Farhan, Jordan Thompson, and Mohammad Taha Khan comprise the Karachi Kings.

There are a lot of people in the Multan Sultans, like Mohammad Rizwan and Rilee Rossouw. Sohaib Maqsood is one of them. Imran Tahir is another one. Shan Masood is another one. Khushdil Shah is another one. Tim David, Rumman Raees and Asif Afridi are also in the Sultans.
