ISLAMABAD: The government plans to make hard choices and is likely to raise taxes on a number of things.
Details show that the regulatory duty on imported tires is likely to go up by 50%, while the duty on imported tiles is likely to go up by 40%.
The tax on machinery will go up by 10%, and the tax on home appliances will go up by 50%.
The government also plans to charge twice as much for cell phones and cars with engines bigger than 1800cc.
At the same time, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led an important meeting where it was decided to stop bringing in any luxury or unnecessary items.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said that the government will not let these things be bought with the country’s valuable foreign exchange reserves.
