Shanghai authorities have summoned Starbucks and Shake Shack, among other companies, for their involvement in excessive collection of personal data, as reported by the city’s cyberspace regulator on Wednesday. The regulators emphasized the need for these businesses to undertake comprehensive measures to rectify the situation, ensuring the protection of personal information and the preservation of consumers’ lawful rights and interests. In an official statement, Shanghai’s cyberspace regulator expressed that Shake Shack, along with another unidentified company, has already taken initial steps to address the concerns, while Starbucks is presently engaged in proactive adjustments to resolve the issue.
