Roche gets approval from the U.S. for a flu drug for kids over 5 years old.

Zurich (Reuters) – Roche said on Friday that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given its Xofluza drug the green light to treat flu in children older than 5 years old.

The medicine has been given the green light to treat children with flu symptoms that have been going on for less than 48 hours and are otherwise healthy.

The FDA also approved Xofluza to prevent the flu in kids older than 5 who have been in contact with someone who has it.

Roche said that the drug is the first one-time-dose oral medicine for flu that has been approved in the U.S. for children this age. Xofluza is already approved by the FDA to treat flu in people over the age of 12.
