Ran and Sheldon will look at the merge from both a technical and a fundamental point of view during a special episode of Crypto Banter.

When the Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD) reaches 58750000000000000000000, the merge will be turned on. When that TTD is reached, the first PoS block will be made on the Ethereum blockchain. This will take about 13 minutes.

At the time this was written, the total number of problems was 58749299012835133516771. With the current hash rate of 750.3 TH/s, TTD would be reached at 6:44 UTC on September 15.

The Merge will put the new proof-of-stake consensus layer on top of the existing execution layer. It eliminates the need for energy-intensive mining by reducing Ethereum’s energy consumption by 99.95% and securing the network. Moreover, Ethereum also advises users who prefer better scalability and cheaper fees to use Layer 2, which includes Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism.

Crypto Banter is a go-to live streaming, news, and educational Bitcoin, Defi, NFT, Blockchain, and cryptocurrency channel. The Youtube channel interviews the biggest crypto industry guests, billionaires, thought leaders, and professional traders, every single day.

At the time of writing, Ethereum is priced at $1,593.23, with a fall of 2.61% in the past seven days. But the coin has dipped by 0.44% in the past hour. If the Merge succeeds, the Ethereum price is expected sore to the upside, however, if it fails, the Ethereum price could be sent to new lows.
