Is your iPhone giving crooks and stalkers access to your exact location?

According to CNET, social media companies such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok do gather user data and monitor people’s positions, but this does not mean that thieves and stalkers may access a person’s actual location.

A viral social media article warned users that a new update to Apple’s operating system, iOS, has allowed hackers to access users’ sensitive information.

“But it’s only a rumor, and that’s not how exact location works,” according to the CNET story.

Although users provide various applications access to their microphones, contacts, photographs, cameras, and locations, they may now choose how much of their location they want to share with an application.

Apple intends to upgrade the iPhone 14 and the HomePod.
“Apple modified how users may control their location data with the introduction of iOS 14 in 2020. Instead of enabling applications to access your exact coordinates, you may now disable precise location monitoring, allowing apps to just know roughly where you are.

So, here’s how to disable your specific position.

If your iOS has been upgraded to 14, go to the “Settings” app and browse to an app that you prefer that does not access your specific location.

After you’ve chosen the application, click “Location.” There, you’ll either see “Ask Next Time or When I Share” or “While Using the App.”

There’s another choice underneath these three: “Precise Location.” If you don’t want to share your specific location, turn off the option.

“While most applications do not require your specific position, be aware that if you disable this option for apps that require your exact location to function — such as Uber, Google Maps, or Doordash — you may experience issues with those services,” the research said.
