Indian police arrested a student for sharing Pakistan Day wishes over WhatsApp.

KARNATAKA: A 25-year-old student in India’s Karnataka state has been detained for reportedly posting a WhatsApp story on March 23 in which she expressed a desire for Pakistan Day.

According to Hindustan Times, the lady, Kuthma Shiekh, made a status on WhatsApp in Urdu saying, “Allah har Mulk me Ittihad, aman, sukoon, at farma Maula [May God bless every country with peace, unity, and harmony]”.

Activist Arun Kumar Bhajantri filed a complaint against Kuchma, claiming her actions were making people afraid of each other and asking that she be charged with treason. The student was detained while Bhajantri was in custody.

The lady was charged with violating Indian Penal Code sections 153 (A) for “inciting enmity between groups on the basis of religion, race, or other characteristics” and 505 (2) for “inciting hatred between groups on the basis of religion, race, or other characteristics.”

Kathman was apprehended by police on March 24. However, the next day, she was given bail.
