India says Tesla should not bring cars from China to sell in its country.
There is no problem with Tesla setting up shop in India, making cars there for sale and exporting them, but they can’t import cars from China.
During a government meeting, the minister, Nitin Gadkari, said: “Making things in China and selling them here is not a good idea.”
A lot of people in India want to buy electric cars from Tesla, and the company has been trying to get them into the country for a long time. The company’s billionaire CEO, Elon Musk, says that the tariffs on electric cars in India are some of the highest in the world.
When it comes to making cars in India, Tesla hasn’t said how much money it plans to invest, which would be in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” plan to boost local manufacturing and create jobs.
When Tesla set up a business in India last year, it took another step toward making the car available there.
India and Energy Private Limited was formed on January 8, 2021, and its registered office is in the southern city of Bengaluru, which is home to a lot of big technology companies.
The Indian company had three directors in a regulatory filing, which is how many people were in charge of the company.
