“In Pakistan, Chinese-funded businesses are devoted to corporate social responsibility”

Farrukh Habib, Pakistan’s State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, said that Chinese-backed businesses operating in Pakistan are devoted to corporate social responsibility.

CPC’s next projects are likely to attract $28 billion, according to an official.

Habib said on Thursday at the 14th Annual Corporate Social Responsibility Summit. Chinese-funded corporations, including those working on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, are taking a very responsible role in bringing about sustainable social, environmental, and economic benefits for the welfare of Pakistan’s people.

The state minister told Xinhua that “CPEC’s initiatives contribute to the country’s green development.” The state-of-the-art infrastructure and energy projects “boost Pakistan’s economic development,” the state minister told Xinhua, adding that the Pakistani government’s top aim is to complete the CPEC projects on time.

The National Forum for the Environment and Health also gave awards for corporate social responsibility to a lot of businesses, many of which were funded by Chinese investors.

Xinhua reported that Li Hui, chief representative of China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Co., Ltd. in Pakistan, which is a subsidiary of China’s State Grid Corporation and invested in and constructed the Matiari-Lahore high-voltage direct current transmission project as part of CPEC, told Xinhua that winning corporate social responsibility awards demonstrated the project’s recognition.

The transmission project has done a lot for the community, giving away a lot of rice and flour and helping the Pakistani people fight COVID-19 by giving them masks and medicine, he said. The project also planted more than 50,000 trees in eastern Punjab province last year to protect the environment.

It will be more important for the project to focus on corporate social responsibility in the future, he said. This will help local residents and strengthen the unique relationship between China and Pakistan.
