Google Cloud now includes a service for detecting crypto mining malware threats.

The new Virtual Machine Threat Detection (VMTD) from the firm will be able to detect threats such as currency mining, data exfiltration, and ransomware.

Google Cloud announced the addition of Virtual Machine Threat Detection (VMTD), which would aid in the detection of risks such as malware that mines cryptocurrency on a compromised account.

According to a Google blog post, “VMTD is a first-to-market detection tool from a major cloud provider that delivers agentless memory scanning to assist identify risks like crypto-mining malware within your virtual machines operating in the Google Cloud.”

The decision comes after the firm revealed in November that 86 percent of “malicious actors” used hijacked Google Cloud accounts to mine bitcoins.

According to the blog, VMTD will also be able to defend Google Cloud Platform clients against threats such as data exfiltration and ransomware.

The measure is now in “public preview” and Google plans to integrate it with other aspects of its service over the next two months.
