Experts say that hurricane season could cause gas prices in Alabama to rise again.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – In the last month, gas prices have been going down. The average price in the state is now 76 cents less than it was a month ago. As of August 11, it costs $3.59 per gallon.
AAA experts said that the lower prices are due to less demand around the world and in the area. Clay Ingram, from the Alabama AAA, said that prices tend to start going down now because summer travel is coming to an end. He said that prices at the pump probably won’t even go up a lot for Labor Day weekend.
Ingram thinks that prices in Alabama will keep going down by a few cents each month for the rest of the year unless a busy hurricane season in September has an effect on the price of oil around the world.
“Something to mess up the system,” said Ingram. Some refineries, platforms, pipelines, or something like that. We do have to deal with this sometimes. It’s a pain and a bother, and it could make our prices go up again. “
Ingram said that oil prices are likely to go back down below $3 if hurricane season doesn’t mess up the market.
