China’s Premier Li Keqiang supports the new energy vehicle sector.
Shanghai Premier Li Keqiang praised China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) industry on Saturday. In a letter given out at the World New Energy Vehicle Congress in Beijing, he said that the NEV industry “will continue to improve international collaboration.”
Li said that the nation’s backing for NEVs is “consistent with international laws” and that China needs broad international collaboration to combat climate change.
China’s efforts to fight COVID-19 have had a big effect on the car industry. Many places, including the economic centre of Shanghai, have been shut down for varying amounts of time.
Since the lockdown in Shanghai was lifted, the sector has made a small comeback, but this summer’s heat waves have also hurt production.
On the other hand, sales of pure electric and plug-in hybrid cars more than quadrupled in the first half of the year, thanks in part to tax breaks and government subsidies.
