Bill Murray’s wallet was stolen, FIFA’s highlights were tokenized, Muse is at the top of the charts, and more…
Late last week, someone broke into Bill Murray’s Ethereum wallet and stole about 110 wrapped ETH (wETH), which is worth $172,000.
As a charity fundraiser for Chive Charities, the auction for The Bill Murray 1,000 NFT Drop was just about to end on Thursday, September 1. It raised a total of 119.2 W.
But hackers were said to have been keeping an eye on Murray’s wallet all day. When the sale was almost over, they swooped in and took almost all of the money.
Even though it is not 100% clear how the hackers got into Murray’s wallet, it is thought that they used an exploit that drains wallets. They are also said to have sent the stolen money to a wallet address connected to the Binance exchange and Unionchain.AI.
By moving Murray’s blue-chip NFTs like two CryptoPunks, a Pudgy Penguin, and a Damien Hirst NFT to safe house wallets, his wallet security team was able to stop the hackers from taking them.
“The Bill Murray 1000” was made up of 1,000 NFTs with artwork that was inspired by 100 of Murray’s stories. The tokens were made available through Coinbase’s NFT marketplace. Some of the most valuable NFTs gave buyers the chance to have a beer with Murray himself.
At the time this was written, Murray’s wallet only had 0.047 ETH left in it, which was worth about $75.
FIFA follows in the footsteps of NBA Top Shot.
“FIFA+Collect” is the name of a new NFT project that has been announced by FIFA, the international organisation in charge of soccer.
It will work like Dapper Lab’s NBA Top Shot, which is a very popular game that has a marketplace and tokenized in-game highlight collectibles.
Related: FIFA will remove the Pakistan Football Federation ban soon.
The project will start later this month on FIFA’s digital content platform, FIFA+. The NFTs will show historic moments from past FIFA World Cups and FIFA Women’s World Cups. The Algorand-based NFTs will also come with digital art and images of the game’s best parts.
This is part of the promotion for the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar this November.
A Muse that uses blockchain Muse, a British rock band, is the first band to have an album sold in NFT format reach the top of the UK charts.
The well-known rock band’s new album, Will of the People, sold 51,500 copies last week, making it the best-selling album. Notably, this number was higher than the total sales of the next nine best-selling albums put together.
Muse gave away 1,000 tokenized copies of the album through the Serenade Marketplace as part of the launch of the album at the end of August. The NFT version was different from the physical album because the cover art was different and the band members signed it digitally.
NFL/NFT sneaker deal
DeVonta Smith, a wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, has signed a unique shoe deal with Web3 startup Endstate to make a signature sneaker line linked to NFTs.
Biz Journals said on September 2 that Endstate will first sell NFTs with a digital version of Smith’s signature shoe. Once the shoes are ready to ship in mid-December, buyers will get the physical version.
Smith worked with the design team at Endstate to make the shoe. The NFTs will be released later this month.
Part of the appeal of Endstate is that the market for collecting shoes, which is very popular, has been turned into tokens.
By linking shoes to NFTs on the blockchain, buyers will be able to prove online that they own the shoes. This could make it easier for people to buy, sell, and trade their highly sought-after sneakers.
