Chairman NAB’s U-turn on Appearances Before Parliamentary Committees

In a letter to the Secretary of the National Assembly, the NAB stated that the reference to the Prime Minister’s consent in the letter dated January 3 was unintended and accidental.

According to the facts, the NAB chairman withdrew a letter written to the National Assembly secretary on January 3 about the NAB’s appearance before parliamentary committees.

In a recent letter to the Secretary of the National Assembly, the NAB stated that the DG was given the authority to present because the Chairman of the NAB was unavailable.

According to the new letter from NAB, the chairman was unable to attend owing to the sickness of a member of the NAB family. The Chairman of the NAB has previously testified before the PAC and will do so again.

It may be noted that the NAB letter delivered at the PAC meeting said that the DG NAB will represent the future Chairman of NAB with the permission of the Prime Minister.

According to reports, Prime Minister Imran Khan has prevented the Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau, Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, from attending any standing committee meetings.

At the meeting, Noor Alam Khan, a member of the Public Accounts Committee, stated that if the Prime Minister had granted his assent, the Cabinet Division would have prepared a letter. Another officer cannot act as the Principal Accounting Officer’s representative.
