Arm comes out with a new chip design for the cloud and the data center.
Alibaba has already used Arm technology to make processor chips: Arm
OAKLAND Arm Ltd., a British chip technology company owned by SoftBank Group Corp. (9984.T), released Neoverse V2, the next generation of chips for data centres, on Wednesday. This was done to keep up with the rapid growth of data from 5G and Internet-connected devices.
Arm makes intellectual property that other companies, like Qualcomm or Apple, can then licence to make their own processor chips. Most mobile phones use technology from Arm, but the company is also making a big push into data centre processors, which have been dominated for a long time by Intel Corp. (INTC.O) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.O).
Arm said that companies like Ampere, Amazon, Fujitsu, and Alibaba already make processor chips for their data centres that use Arm technology. It said that Neoverse V2 makes better use of power, but it didn’t give any numbers.

During a Q&A about the new product, Dermot O’Driscoll, Arm’s vice president for product solutions, said, “Our partners are taking this and building very efficient solutions to solve the problems they want to solve.” “From V1 to V2, we do expect to see some pretty interesting data points.”
Arm said that the Neoverse V2 design was used to make Nvidia Corp.’s (NVDA.O) latest data centre processor, Grace.
