A “Metaverse academy” will open in France, according to the company.

PARIS (AFP) – The French capital was rocked by a series of violent incidents. Meta and a French digital training company say that the “metaverse academy” will open in France at the start of the new school year.

Virtual reality and augmented reality are just two of the new technologies that the metaverse sees as the next big step forward for the internet.

Around 100 students will be trained for free in two roles: professional immersive technology developers and support and assistance technicians, according to Meta’s vice president for southern Europe, Laurent Solly.

According to Frederic Bardeau, co-founder and CEO of Simplon, the French company collaborating with Meta, the education style will be in-person and centred around projects with an emphasis on the 3D environment and interactions in virtual realities.

Paris and other major towns like Lyon and Marseille will host a metaverse school that will teach 20 students each year.

Diversity will be given special consideration. Bardeau claimed he would not look at candidates’ CVs and endorsed positive discrimination, while Solly said the goal was to have 30% of the first cohort be female.

A new strategic goal for the US technology giant, Meta announced plans to generate 10,000 jobs in Europe over the next five years, starting in October 2021.

The metaverse will be a big part of the skills needed for jobs in the future, and this is what drives the project.

According to Meta and Simplon, 80 percent of the occupations that will exist in 2030 have not yet been established, underscoring the need to develop training programmes today.
