ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s session, presided over by Speaker Asad Qaiser, began with a vote on a no-confidence resolution against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Rangers and FC officials have been deployed as Islamabad’s security has been heightened. The NA’s authorities said that voting will take place in accordance with the Supreme Court’s decision.
Additionally, around 50 members of the treasury bench are in attendance.
In the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif, leader of the opposition party, spoke to the whole group. He asked for a vote to be held in accordance with a Supreme Court ruling.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf administration desired a democratic and constitutional resolution to the no-confidence motion. He said that it was the opposition’s prerogative to bring the no-confidence resolution and that neither party had ever violated the constitution and had no intention of doing so in the future.
The prime minister said that although he was upset with the Supreme Court’s decision to dissolve parliament, he accepted the decision.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party, and Maulana Fazl ur Rehman, the leader of the Pakistan Democratic Movement, both said that they would not accept the Supreme Court’s decision even if it was based on the philosophy of necessity.
In a momentous decision, on April 7, the Supreme Court declared the deputy speaker’s decree to be unconstitutional and reinstated the dissolved National Assembly.
Imran Khan and President Arif Alvi’s actions were thrown out by the court. It said that the speaker could not close the National Assembly session without voting on a no-confidence vote.
The court had ordered that the legislature reconvene on Saturday, April 9) to vote on a motion of no confidence. Additionally, it directed that the voting process be free of obstructions.
