Volkswagen unveils the all-electric ID, causing quite a Buzz in Paris.

(Reuters) – BERLIN/PARISOn Wednesday, Volkswagen (VOWG p.DE) unveiled a production version of its long-awaited ID. Buzz van in Paris.The car is an electric version of Volkswagen’s Microbus or Kombi. It will be on sale in a number of European countries in the third quarter of 2022, and it will be able to run on electricity.

Eventually, the van will be available in the United States, the German manufacturer said in a statement, noting that it is the first of many prototypes that have been shown over the last decade to be made into a real car.

The car, which was built in Hanover, Germany, is powered by an 82 kWh lithium-ion battery and has a top speed of 90 miles per hour, Volkswagen said. Most of the parts for the car came from Volkswagen Group Components in Germany.

Batteries of different sizes and power outputs will be available next year, the company said.
