Here are some other crypto industry figures currently under the scrutiny of U.S. authorities:
- Changpeng “CZ” Zhao: The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have filed lawsuits against Binance and its CEO, alleging deceptive operations and compliance issues. Zhao has defended the company’s actions, asserting that the allegations lack justification.
- Do Kwon: A co-founder of Terraform Labs, Do Kwon is facing charges of fraud in the U.S. and was arrested in Montenegro for alleged document forgery. The SEC has also brought civil charges against him and Terraform Labs, accusing them of a multi-billion dollar crypto asset securities fraud. Kwon has denied forging documents and maintained innocence.
- Alex Mashinsky: The founder of Celsius Network’s company, who filed for bankruptcy, is facing U.S. fraud charges related to misleading customers and inflating the value of the company’s crypto token. He has pleaded not guilty to these charges and is determined to defend himself in court. He also faces lawsuits from the SEC, CFTC, and FTC.
- Barry Silbert: Head of Digital Currency Group, whose subsidiary Genesis Global Capital filed for bankruptcy, Silbert was sued by the New York Attorney General for alleged customer fraud exceeding $1 billion. He refuted these allegations and vowed to contest the lawsuit.
- Stephen Ehrlich: Voyager Digital’s CEO, accused by the CFTC and FTC of misleading customers and taking excessive risks that led to the crypto lender’s troubles. Ehrlich maintains that he is being unfairly blamed for the actions of others at different companies.
