The world’s leaders have congratulated Macron on his victory in the French presidential election.
PARIS – People from around the world have been quick to send their best wishes to France’s centrist President Emmanuel Macron, who was re-elected on Sunday and beat the far-right candidate, Marine Le Pen.

“For five more years, we can depend on France,” European Council President Charles Michel posted on Twitter.
“I am glad that our outstanding partnership can continue,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen tweeted.
“France is our longest-standing friend and a critical partner in resolving global issues,” US Vice President Joe Biden tweeted. In the future, I look forward to working with you on a wide range of issues, such as helping Ukraine, preserving democracy, and fighting climate change.
Antony Blinken, the Secretary of State, also praised Macron.
“We look forward to continue our strong collaboration with France on global issues, which will strengthen our long and lasting Alliance and friendship,” he wrote.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that French voters “had now delivered a powerful message to Europe.” I am delighted that our productive collaboration will continue.”
Britain’s Prime Minister called France “one of our closest and most important friends.”
Johnson expressed his enthusiasm for “continuing to work together on the subjects that matter most to our two nations and the globe” in a tweet.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has talked with Macron many times since Russia’s invasion on February 24, telephoned to congratulate his French colleague.
Zelensky referred to Macron as a “real friend of Ukraine” on Twitter.
