The US is investigating Amazon’s e-commerce techniques, according to a report.
NEW YORK, – The Wall Street Journal said on Wednesday that US authorities are looking into whether Amazon used data from merchants on its platform to make its own goods.
Journal: The Securities and Exchange Commission wants to see emails and other conversations between executives about how they used information about sellers to do their jobs.
The SEC and Amazon did not reply to a request for comment.
According to former Amazon employees who spoke to the newspaper, the online retailer misused the data of other businesses when it used it on its own site, the paper said.
According to the Journal, Amazon used third-party data on sales patterns on its website to build private-label items.
It has been looking into Amazon’s business since 2019. The House Judiciary Committee has questioned CEO Jeff Bezos and other people at meetings.
Members of the committee asked US Attorney General Merrick Garland to look into whether the Seattle-based business broke the law in March.
They charged an Amazon official with perjury after he said that the corporation did not utilize data from third-party providers.
Amazon has disputed the charges, but it hasn’t given the panel the supporting documents that elected officials have asked for, so they can’t believe them.
