ISLAMABAD: The country’s present political crisis, precipitated by the no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan, might pave the way for non-political forces, the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) cautioned Saturday,
Hafeez-ur-Rehman Chaudhry, a vice-chairman of the PBC, said that democratic irritants might use the unstable political environment to change the rules of the game.
He said he was worried that new members of the treasury benches are trying to stop the constitutional process over the no-confidence vote on weak grounds, which could be at the request of democratic irritants. This puts the country in a situation that can’t be changed.
He also asked Pakistan’s Chief Justice to pay attention and make sure that the democratic process surrounding the no-confidence motion, no matter what happens, is done in the true spirit of the Constitution. This is to make sure that the Constitution is supreme, the rule of law, and the best interests of democracy and the country.
Agencies are on high alert for the possibility of political rivals colliding.
Meanwhile, officials claimed, that Pakistan’s intelligence services have recommended a robust plan to law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to avert a potential fight between political rivals on the day of voting on the no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
By issuing advisories, the agencies painted a bleak picture of a possible fight between the governing PTI and the opposition parties on the important day, which could cause a lot of chaos in the federal capital.
Well-placed sources stated in response to a query that the officials in charge of keeping peace and order in Islamabad are apparently devising a counter-strategy to such potential for unrest.
