The head of Royal Mail sends an appeal to the union while the company’s costs are still “under review.”

As costs rise across the board, the head of Royal Mail said that the company is keeping rates “under review” and that unions planning to strike must understand “the changes that are needed so we can compete in the market.”

Simon Thompson spoke at a time when the company was getting pushback from everyone on its plans to modernise. Unite is now polling managers about possible job cuts.

The Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) is also threatening to go on strike, but this time it’s about pay.

The cost of living crisis has led to a lot of private sector workers asking for pay raises to keep up with inflation, which is currently at 9%.

Unions are also against any plans to cut costs that could hurt their own members.

The CWU is the union for 115,000 postal workers at Royal Mail. In the past few months, it has led strikes at so-called “royal post offices” and is also voting on pay for workers at BT.

It says that Royal Mail is making money off of its customers to make more money for itself.
