According to the Russian foreign ministry, the US punished Imran Khan for not canceling his trip to the country because he did not.
Imran Khan has said that the US is behind a vote of no confidence against him, and Russia’s foreign ministry says that all of the events that happened before and after the Pakistani PM’s trip to Russia show that the US wanted to “punish disobedient” Imran Khan for not canceling his trip to the country in February.
When Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was supposed to visit Moscow in February 2022, the US and its allies asked him to postpone the trip because of the Ukraine conflict.
Additionally, the statement said that the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs contacted Pakistan Ambassador to the United States, Asad Majeed Khan, and pressed him to postpone the visit, but the pressure was refused, and Imran Khan proceeded with his plans.
“Suddenly, a number of the Pakistan Prime Minister’s MNAs defected to the opposition, and a no-confidence vote was filed against him,“ the media outlet reports.
According to the Russian foreign ministry, claims in Pakistani media about a threat document show that the US tried to get “disobedient” Imran Khan punished by interfering in Pakistan’s internal affairs in order to punish him.
