In anticipation of the possible formation of a Tehreek-e-Insaf government in Punjab, the flour mill owners of Peshawar have stopped buying wheat at high prices. During the previous government’s tenure, due to the fertilizer crisis and the delay in the announcement of support purchase price, there was a short production of 35 lakh tonnes of wheat in the country, due to which the Imran Khan government and later the Shahbaz government also decided to import 30 lakh tonnes of wheat. So far, the federal government has signed contracts for the import of more than 4 lakh tonnes of wheat in various tenders out of one million tonnes of wheat to be imported through TCP.
