Spotify buys a company that looks for harmful content.

Terms of the deal were not made public.

Spotify Technology SA (SPOT.N), which lets people listen to music online, said on Wednesday that it had bought Kinzen, a company that has helped it find harmful content on its platform.

The acquisition is part of Spotify’s plan to deal with harmful content on its service. It comes after the podcaster Joe Rogan was accused of spreading false information about COVID-19 in “The Joe Rogan Experience,” which caused a backlash earlier this year.

Since 2020, the Dublin-based company has been working with Spotify. At first, they focused on making sure all election-related content around the world was accurate. Since then, Kinzen’s job has grown to include stopping hate speech, false information, and misinformation.

Sarah Hoyle, head of trust and safety at Spotify, said, “Kinzen gives us a mix of tools and expertise to help us better understand the content on our platform and new abuse trends.”

Terms of the deal were not made public.

Earlier this year, Spotify said it would be clearer about how it decides what content is good and what is bad. In January, it put out its platform rules for the first time. In June, it set up a Safety Advisory Council to get feedback on content that could be harmful.

Kinzen will let Spotify know about problems in different markets before they happen. This will help Spotify moderate content in more languages more effectively.
