SHC requests a response about the closure of Burns Road.

On Monday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) requested a response from the Sindh government on a petition contesting the closing of Burns Road at night in order to keep the area as a food strip.

At the outset, Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, the leader of a two-member bench, asked the state counsel if residents living nearby were consulted before the road was closed. The state attorney general, on the other hand, was unsure.

The area’s DSP traffic informed the bench that the route had been blocked at 7 p.m. by erecting barriers, and that the local government had issued a notification in this respect.

“How can the administration issue a notification blocking a main thoroughfare and declaring it a food strip without first collecting complaints from the people who live nearby?” So said Justice Rizvi.

He remarked that diverting traffic to the area’s tiny streets would be inconvenient for the residents and would obstruct their freedom of movement.

The bench directed the Assistant Advocate General to submit a response detailing the process used to close the road and whether or not the residents of the area were heard.

A further hearing in the case has been postponed for four weeks.
