The opposition has been able to get the support of the MQM, and both will speak at a press conference at 4 pm today.

ISLAMABAD The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has left the government and joined the opposition alliance. This is a big surprise for the opposition, though.

A written agreement was made between the opposition and the MQM. This is how it worked: The official announcement will be made this evening at 4 p.m. at a press conference, so stay tuned.

The agreement was reached last night at Parliament Lodges. It was signed by Bilawal Bhutto, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Shehbaz Sharif, and guarantors were Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Akhtar Mengal, and Khalid Magsi. This is how it works: the federal cabinet won’t have MQM Pakistan in it anymore, and the Sindh government will send a draught amendment to the Sindh Assembly in less than a month.

People signed a deal to make sure the law for local government will be made in the same way as Article 140A of the Constitution. A lot more power will be given to local governments. Administrators of local bodies in Hyderabad and Karachi will be chosen after consulting with other people in the cities. Murtaza Wahab, the Karachi Metropolitan Administrator, will be leaving his job. There will be a group set up to look after special projects and funds in Sindh, which includes Karachi.

The agreement also said that a law will be made to stop people from getting fake domiciles in Sindh. Under the agreement, a new group called the provincial finance commission will be set up. They will also figure out a new way to distribute provincial revenue.
