Qureshi calls on the OIC to take real actions toward resolving the Kashmir and Palestine crises.
Pakistan has taken over as chairperson of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ 48th session, which is presently underway in Islamabad’s parliament house. Niger Foreign Minister Ibrahim Yacoubou assumed the leadership.
The discussion is being chaired by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
In his opening comments, Qureshi asked the OIC to build a cohesive response to the problems confronting the Muslim Ummah. He said that the OIC spoke for approximately two billion Muslims collectively.
“It serves as a link between Muslim nations and the rest of the world.” Promoting unity and collaboration within the Muslim Ummah is a core tenet of Pakistan’s foreign policy, “he said, adding that Pakistan’s overriding objective as chairman of the OIC’s 48th session would be to further cement Muslim-Muslim cooperation.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, referring to the situation in Palestine and Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, said the Muslims of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir were still suffering from tyranny. “We must go beyond adopting resolutions and make meaningful efforts toward resolving these conflicts permanently,” he said.
Pakistan’s foreign minister said that the country wished to further increase the OIC’s position. He said that Pakistan had spoken out against Islamophobia. The OIC will establish a plan to combat Islamophobia, he continued.
Additionally, he said that world peace was at risk as a result of east-west tensions.
