Frankfurt – A member of the ECB board, Fabio Panetta, said on Monday that work on the digital euro, an electronic version of banknotes and coins, could start by the end of next year.
“Finally, at the end of 2023, we could decide to start a realization phase to develop and test the right technical solutions and business arrangements for a digital euro,“ Panetta said. “This stage could take three years.”
