Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has declared China to be the country’s “iron brother.”

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan emphasised that China is Pakistan’s unwavering ally, loyal backer, and Iron Brother.

On Sunday, he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Beijing’s Great Hall of People, where the two leaders discussed the full range of Pakistan-China bilateral cooperation and shared views on regional and global problems of mutual importance.

Imran Khan congratulated the government and people of China on the successful hosting of the 24th Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, and wished them a happy Chinese Lunar New Year.

President Xi was briefed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on a people-centered geoeconomic vision and his government’s objectives for Pakistan’s sustainable prosperity, industrial development, agricultural modernisation, and regional connectivity.

He praised China’s ongoing help for Pakistan’s socioeconomic growth, which has benefited immensely from the CPEC.

The Prime Minister hailed increasing Chinese investment in Phase II of CPEC.

He emphasised that unsolvable concerns like climate change, pandemics, and rising inequities could only be addressed with the unequivocal collaboration of all nations.

Imran Khan stated that atrocities committed in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, as well as persecution of minorities in India, pose a danger to regional peace.

Imran Khan also underlined Pakistan’s unwavering support for China on all areas of mutual concern.

Both presidents agreed that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan would encourage regional economic growth and connectivity.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan stated that during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday, they decided to strengthen their strategic and economic ties, as well as to expedite the second phase of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

He remarked in a tweet on Sunday that he had a terrific meeting with the Chinese President.
