Pakistan’s envoy talks with Egyptian business leaders to discuss ways to expand bilateral trade.

ISLAMABAD: Sajid Bilal, Islamabad’s envoy to Cairo, met with Egyptian business leaders on Tuesday to explore ways to boost bilateral trade, according to Arab News.

Ambassador Bilal met with representatives from Egypt’s oldest chamber of trade, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, and the Alexandria Business Association.

During the meetings, the Pakistani envoy discussed “ways to strengthen bilateral trade relations” and “explore avenues of B2B connectivity with Pakistani companies” with Alexandria Chamber of Commerce chairman Ahmed El Wakil and Alexandria Business Association vice president Abdel Moneim Hafez, as well as board members of both associations, the Pakistani embassy said in a series of tweets.

According to the Egyptian daily Al-Ahram, Pakistan’s envoy stated that Islamabad wants to boost the amount of commerce with Egypt in both exports and imports.

Egypt’s commerce with Pakistan is negligible. According to the UN Comtrade database on international trade, Pakistani exports to Egypt were $71.3 million in 2020.

Textiles, notably denim fabric and cotton, are Pakistan’s major exports to Egypt.

Its main Egyptian imports are medical equipment and technological gadgets.
