New groups for work and school are being tried out on WhatsApp.
It says that (Reuters) – The company that owns the service said on Thursday that it is testing a new feature called “Communities” that could be used by businesses and schools.
He said the new feature would put groups, which are limited to 256 people each, under bigger umbrellas where administrators could send alerts to a large community of people.
“This is aimed at the groups you already belong to in your life that use private communication,” said Cathcart in an interview with Reuters. “Slack and Microsoft Teams are both good examples.”
He said there are no plans to charge for the new feature, which is being tested with a small group of global communities. But he didn’t rule out giving “premium features” to businesses in the future.
Users of the messaging service, which is encrypted from start to finish and has more than 2 billion users, said the Communities feature would also be encrypted from start to finish when it comes out.
WhatsApp has had to deal with a lot of bad things, like people sending a lot of messages and spreading misinformation and hate speech. He said that users would not be able to search for different groups on WhatsApp and that the new feature would have anti-abuse tools and safeguards like forwarding limits.
WhatsApp said that groups will also change before communities are released, and these changes will be made before communities are released. Users can now remove messages that aren’t good for the group. Voice calls for up to 32 people, file-sharing of up to 2 GB, and emoji reactions will also be added.
In a blog post on Thursday, he said that communities would be released over the next few months. According to what he said, Meta was going to be making community messaging features for Facebook and Messenger, as well as for Instagram.
If Meta is following through on its promise to become more private, it will also start encrypting the other messages on its apps.
