Nestle flies infant formula supplies from Europe to the United States.

London (Reuters) -Nestle SA said on Tuesday that it is sending baby formula from the Netherlands and Switzerland to the United States to help with the shortage in U.S. stores.

Nestle said in an email to Reuters that it is importing Gerber baby food formula from the Netherlands and Alfamino infant formula from Switzerland to the United States.

“We prioritized these items because they provide an essential medical function for infants with cow’s milk protein sensitivities,” the business said. Both of these things were already being brought in from other countries, but we sent them by air to meet urgent needs.

Parents have cleared baby formula aisles at supermarkets across the country since major U.S. producer Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: ABT) recalled dozens of varieties of its Similac, Alimentum, and EleCare formulas in February.

Reckitt Benckiser is increasing infant formula production by roughly 30% and delivering it to stores more frequently, an official told Reuters on Tuesday, in order to combat a statewide shortage in U.S. supermarkets.
