Meta will sell virtual clothing for real money at an ad-hoc fashion boutique.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, announced on Friday that Facebook owner Meta Platforms (META.O) is launching a virtual apparel store where users may purchase custom costumes for their avatars.
In a live video chat with Instagram’s head of fashion, Zuckerberg stated that virtual costumes designed by Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne would be available for purchase, according to Zuckerberg.
A spokesman from Meta stated that they would be priced between $2.99 and $8.99, substantially less than the authentic ensembles designed by these planners.
For example, Prada’s Matinee ostrich cowhide bag retails for $10,700.
Zuckerberg stated that he wished to build the shop as an open commercial center where engineers could create and sell a wide variety of digital goods.
Symbols have emerged as one way for Meta to connect client characters across Facebook, Instagram, and its other services, as it merges the platforms and builds a vibrant “metaverse” of shared, interconnected digital universes where users can congregate.
Customers of the company’s computer-generated experience headsets place symbols to play computer games, take practice lessons, and participate in phone calls, but initially, the sophisticated clothing will only be accessible on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, according to an announcement by Meta.
The company improved their augmented reality symbols to be more expressive and three-layered last year, and then made them available on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger in January.
On the 17th of June, 2022, a logo of Meta Platforms Inc. is seen on its booth at the Viva Technology conference, which is devoted to the development of new businesses, at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre in Paris, France.
