Mean Girls will return to the Web as “crypto-collectibles.”
Recent trademark filings by Paramount Pictures show that they want to expand the Mean Girls brand into “crypto-collectibles.” This means that the 2004 American teen comedy may soon be back on Web3.
According to tweets from licenced trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis, Paramount Pictures filed two trademark applications on September 7 for the teen comedy from the early 2000s that stars Lindsay Lohan, who used to be in Disney movies.

“Downloadable multimedia files with artwork” that are verified by nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and “downloadable virtual goods” that include crypto-collectibles and NFTs are among the trademark applications.
The application also talks about how to move and use crypto-collectibles, non-fungible tokens, and “application tokens.”
Mean Girls is a teen comedy movie from 2004 that has since gained a large cult following and inspired many memes and reaction GIFs made by fans. It’s one of the most-quoted movies of all time, and on Oct. 3, there’s even a national Mean Girls Day.
Viacom International filed a similar trademark application the day before this one to bring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brand into the virtual world.
Every day, more and more companies try to get trademarks for crypto-collectibles, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and the Metaverse.
Asian Trade recently reported that the number of trademarks filed in the Web3 space was on track to exceed that of 2021. This is because more companies are expected to join the rush to get a piece of the Web3 pie.
Famous brands like Nike and Gucci have made $260 million from NFT sales.

Recent trademarks in the NFT and Metaverse space include brands like Hérmes, Sony Music Entertainment, and Formula One, which makes race cars.
According to data from Dune Analytics, well-known brands like Nike, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Adidas, and Tiffany & Co. have already made a total of $260 million from the sales of NFTs. This makes the use of NFTs a very profitable way for brands to expand on Web 3.0.
