Mayank Agarwal will lead the Punjab Kings in the 2022 IPL.

I am delighted to be given the chance to lead the team, “Agarwal said after assuming the role.

Mayank Agarwal has been chosen as Punjab Kings’ captain ahead of the Indian Premier League’s 15th season, which begins on March 26. The franchise made the formal announcement on February 28 through its social media accounts.

Agarwal, who previously served as KL Rahul’s deputy, was the favourite for the post after Rahul was not retained by the club before the big auction, leaving the captain’s position empty.

Agarwal was one of two players kept by the Kings before the 2022 mega auction, in which the Kings had the most money. They bought Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Kagiso Rabada, Odean Amith, Shahrukh Khan, and Rahul Chahar.

Agarwal has been a member of the league since 2011 and has previously played for the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Rising Pune Supergiants. He joined the Punjab-based team in 2018. He has scored 2135 runs at a strike rate of over 135 in his 100-match IPL career.

I accept this obligation wholeheartedly: Agarwal, Mayank

Agarwal said that he was “thrilled” to be given the job and that he would do it with “the utmost honesty.”

“I’ve been with the Punjab Kings since 2018 and I’m really proud to represent this amazing squad. I am overjoyed at the prospect of leading the squad. I take on this duty with the greatest earnestness, but I feel my work will be made simpler by the quality of the Punjab Kings’ roster this season, “he was quoted as saying on the official website of the Punjab Kings.”

We have a number of very experienced players in our ranks, as well as a number of promising teenagers eager to seize the chance and run with it. We have always entered the field with the intention of winning the championship, and as a team, we will fight to achieve this objective of raising our first IPL trophy. I’d want to express my gratitude to the team management for entrusting me with this new leadership responsibility. “I’m looking forward to the new season and the new difficulties it will bring,” he said.
