Japan’s stock market is up at the end of the day; the Nikkei 225 is up 0.20.
After the market closed on Thursday, shares in Japan went up because the mining, gas & water, and insurance sectors all did better.
At the end of the day in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.20 percent.
Hitachi Ltd. (TYO:6501) was the best performer on the Nikkei 225 for the day. It went up 4.49%, or 301 points, to close at 7,007.00. Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) was up 3.66% or 350 points to end at 9,920.00, and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co. Ltd. (TYO:7735) was up 3.48% or 350 points to 10,410.00 in late trade.
Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4005) fell 8.47%, or 42 points, to close at 454.00. This was the worst performance of the day. SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (TYO: 9412) fell 5.67 percent, or 28 points, to finish at $466.00, and Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (TYO: 2802) fell 4.47 percent, or 184 points, to $3,933.00.
On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the number of stocks that went down was 2,168 to 1,364, while the number that went up was 1,364.

Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4005) shares fell to their lowest point in the last 52 weeks, dropping 8.47%, or $42, to $454.00.
The Nikkei Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, went up by 1% to 17.14.
The price of a barrel of crude oil for delivery in March went up 0.65%, or $0.50, to $76.91. In other commodity trading, Brent oil for April delivery went up 0.62 percent, or 51 cents, to $83.35 a barrel, and the April gold futures contract went up 1.49 percent, or 28.90 cents, to $1,971.70 a troy ounce.
The USD/JPY fell by 0.27 percent to 128.59, and the EUR/JPY fell by 0.10 percent to 141.54.
At 100.81, the US Dollar Index Futures were down 0.2%.
