Japan prohibits the sale of chemical weapons-related products to Russia and is concerned about nuke threats

TOKYO (Reuters) Tokyo (Reuters) Japan has decided to stop the export of chemical weapons-related items to Russia as an additional retaliation against Moscow for its aggression in Ukraine and is “deeply worried” about the potential use for nuclear weaponry, chief Minister Hirokazu Matsuno said on Monday.

Japan has also included 21 Russian organizations, including laboratories for science as targets of the existing export bans in a government announcement issued following the cabinet meeting on Monday that formally agreed to the new sanctions proposed by the foreign minister at the Group of Seven meeting last week.

“Japan is extremely concerned about the possible use of nuclear weapons being used in Russia’s incursion into Ukraine,” Matsuno also stated in a press conference and added that Japan is continuing to cooperate with international organizations to support Ukraine and in sanctioning Russia.
