On Friday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) said that electricity prices can go up by 18.57 rupees per unit.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) wanted an increase of 19 paisas per unit for November 2022 because of the fuel adjustment. In its order, the Nepra said that the price hike will not affect people who are on a lifeline.
In the meantime, the regulatory body has cut the price of electricity for Karachi residents by Rs 7.43 per unit. The K-Electric wanted the price of electricity to go down by Rs7.04 per unit. The decision will save electricity users Rs10.61 billion.
Due to the fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for October, the Nepra cut the price of electricity for Karachi Electric (KE) customers by Rs2.45 per unit at the beginning of this month.
According to a notice from Nepra, K Electric asked for the price of electricity to be cut by Rs 1.88 per unit. As a result, the government cut the price of electricity, but only for one month. It also said that the new rates won’t apply to people who use less than 300 units at home.
