Forged documents in a consignment auction revealed tax evasion.

A huge amount of tax evasion through fake documents has been revealed in a consignment auction at Port Qasim Collectorate.

In Pakistan’s Customs Port Qasim Collectorate, a huge amount of tax evasion through fake documents has been revealed in the auction of import consignment, but the officials of the Collectorate, on the tip-off received, investigated and verified the documents of the auctioned goods. It happened that the auction bidder Abdul Basit evaded taxes, on which the authorities have registered a case against the bidder Abdul Basit and obtained a remand from the court so that legal action can be taken against more accused involved in forgery.

According to Express, in February 2020, a case of a consignment of steel sheets arrived for clearance at the Customs Port Qasim Collectorate, but the clearance of the consignment was not completed for some reason, and upon completion of the prescribed legal period, Collectorate officials informed the shipper.An auction of the said consignment under clause 82 of the Customs Act was conducted in March 2022. After successful bidding, a person named Abdul Basit purchased a lot of steel sheet for Rs.1 crore.

He had to pay another one crore rupees at the rate of 10% as income tax, but only one lakh rupees was deposited by the successful bidder, Abdul Basit, as income tax.
