Estonia hosts the ISU European Figure Skating Championships.

(Xinhua) — TALLINN, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) — On the first day of the International Skating Union (ISU) European Figure Skating Championships, Anastasia Mishina/Aleksandr Galliamov of Russia and Andrei Mozalev of Russia took the lead in the pairs and men’s short programmes, respectively.

In the men’s short programme at Tondiraba Ice Hall in the Estonian capital, 2020 World Junior Champion Mozalev led with 99.76 points as a last-minute replacement for compatriot Mikhail Kolyada, who withdrew citing injury. He was followed by teammates Mark Kondratiuk and Evgeni Semenenko in second and third, respectively.

Morisi Kvitelashvili, the reigning European bronze winner who presently represents Georgia, finished fourth with 92.76 points, followed by Daniel Grassl of Italy in fifth with 91.75 points and Deniss Vasiljevs of Latvia in sixth with 90.24 points.

Thirty-three male skaters skated in the short programme, with the top 24 moving on to the free skating event on Friday.

Russia’s incumbent World Champions Mishina/Galliamov won 82.36 points in the pairs short programme, seizing the lead ahead of compatriots Evgenia Tarasova/Vladimir Morozov and two-time European Champions Aleksandra Boikova/Dmitri Kozlovskii.

The short programme included twenty-one couples, with the top 16 advancing to free skating on Thursday.

From January 12 to 16, the European Figure Skating Championships 2022 will feature eight disciplines in singles, couples, and ice dance.

For the second time since 2010, Tallinn will host the ISU European Figure Skating Championships. The ISU European Championships are back after being postponed in 2021 due to COVID-19.
