Due to a wrist injury, Gaikwad will miss the remainder of Sri Lanka’s T20I series.
Mayank Agarwal has been included in the team for the past two Twenty20 Internationals.
Due to a wrist injury, opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of India’s upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. Mayank Agarwal has been named in his place for the next two matches.
Gaikwad was ruled out of Thursday’s first Twenty20 International in Lucknow after complaining of soreness in his right wrist joint and being checked by the BCCI medical staff. He was then scanned with an MRI and visited with a specialist. According to a BCCI statement issued on Saturday, he would go to Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy for further treatment of his ailment. Meanwhile, Agarwal has already made contact with the group in Dharamsala.
Gaikwad made his T20I debut in Sri Lanka in July 2021. He appeared in two matches during that series and then participated in the third Twenty20 International against the West Indies in Kolkata last week. On Thursday, before the toss for the first T20I against Sri Lanka, skipper Rohit Sharma said that Gaikwad was expected to play but was ruled out due to a wrist injury.
Meanwhile, Agarwal is yet to make his international debut for India in the format. He was previously called up to the ODI team for the West Indies series in February after a positive test for COVID-19 by four Indian players.
The team for the rest of the Twenty20 Internationals has been changed: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, and Harshal Patel.
