BASMATI RICE STILL NOT REGISTERED IN PAKISTAN
ISLAMABAD: While Pakistan is battling its body of evidence in the European Union against the Indian move to get Basmati rice enrolled as its item, the ware is as yet not enlisted as a neighborhood item in the nation.
Laws require that prior to applying for enlistment of any item at the worldwide market it must be ensured under the topographical sign (GI) laws of that nation.
Be that as it may, there are no guidelines of the Geographical Indications (Registration and Protection) Act, 2020, instituted in March this year; thus, Basmati isn’t yet an ensured item in Pakistan.
A rice exporter revealed to Dawn that the exporters, especially the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan, had been asking the public authority since mid 2000 to detail the GI laws.
