KE requests a rate increase of Rs 5.27 per unit in March.

ISLAMABAD: K-Electric has requested an increase of around Rs 5.27 per unit in its monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for electricity provided to users in March in order to collect an extra Rs 8.6 billion in revenue in the billing month of May.

The Karachi-based electricity provider first asked for an increase in FCA of Rs4.89 per unit in March in order to raise Rs7.95 billion from customers. Then, it asked for an increase of Rs5.27 per unit, which would have raised Rs8.6 billion.

To make up for higher prices on the national grid and rising costs for RLNG, it said the price had to go up, so it had to raise it.

On April 27, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) will decide if KE’s request for an increase in fuel costs was justified and if it used the economic merit principle when buying electricity from the national grid and its own power plants, as well as when it bought electricity from the national grid.

In a petition submitted to the regulator, the electricity provider requested an extra cost of Rs5.275 per unit from its subscribers under the monthly FCA for March. K-Electric would be able to collect Rs 8.6 billion from its customers through their monthly payments in May 2022 if it was given the go-ahead by the government.payments

In March, the Central Power Purchasing Agency asked for an increase in March’s FCA of Rs8.56 per unit. The KE said that their proposal for an increase in March’s monthly FCA was based on the CPPA’s request for an increase of Rs9.39 per unit.

Additionally, SSGC was billing GIDC arrears of Rs. 662 million every month in accordance with a Supreme Court decision.
