Sean Penn, a Hollywood actor and director who is now making a documentary on Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, discussed the situation.
In a statement published with a news programme, Penn described Russia’s actions as a “brutal miscalculation.”
“I believe that Mr. (Vladimir) Putin has already committed a horrific blunder that has resulted in the loss of lives and shattered hearts. And if he does not repent, I feel he will have committed the most horrible error possible to the whole human race. President (Volodymyr) Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people have become historical icons of courage and conviction. In terms of aspirational democracy, Ukraine is the metaphorical tip of the democratic spear. If we allow it to fight alone, we risk losing our national identity, “he added.
The Academy Award winner attended a news conference in Kyiv on Thursday, where he listened to Ukrainian government officials address the situation. Vice Studios partnered on the documentary alongside Vice World News and Endeavor Content.
Penn returned to Ukraine for the last time in November 2021 to begin recording his documentary, which included a tour of the country’s military monuments.
